Xi Alpha Lambda: Who are we and why should you join us? |
"The Object of this chapter shall be to unite congenially young women of the community for purposes of friendship and cultural development and for participation in the international sisterhood of Beta Sigma Phi."
That's quite a mouthful! In essence, Xi Alpha Lambda is an Exemplar chapter of Beta Sigma Phi. We are an organization of women who are in similar stages of life. We are young mothers who work both in and out of the home. We strive to achieve balance in our lives by participating in a supportive and social organization that allows us to give back to our communities through service projects that benefit local charities. We laugh, we eat and we enjoy each others friendship and company, did I mention that we eat!? If these are things that may interest you, drop us a line. We would love to introduce you to the benefits of this sisterhood.

Social time is special time to be shared with good friends. This time is important for our sisters to get to know each other and our families better. In addition to the social time at each meeting, the Social Committee organizes events on a regular basis throughout the year. Events vary and include "sisters only" events, couples and family events.
We aim to vary our social encounters to include the wide range of interests of our group.
Past socials have included such things as: Dinner and movie nights - Bowling - Theatre nights - Spa days - Tobogganing - Family picnic
This year the Ways and Means Committee created funds by participating in a MacMillan Cookie Dough fundraiser. The committee also raised money through several Regal catalogue fundraisers. All fundraising projects were extremely successful!
This year we supported the Kanata Food Cupboard and their Christmas food hamper. Our fundraising allowed us to support 2 families this year with food and presents. We also donated winter wear to the Snowsuit Fund, and new toys for 10 children through Toy Mountain. We spent a day selling daffodils in support of the Canadian Cancer Society and we donated time and money to the Fairy Godmother Project which outfits young girls from head to toe for their prom. We also donated money and items to Chrysalis house, a shelter for battered women in our community as well as to CHEO and Roger's House.
