Stella Allen

ALLEN, Stella Gertrude (nee Bajac) October 7, 1918 – August 31, 2014

Peacefully in Ottawa at St. Patrick's Home, at the age of 95. Predeceased by her parents Walenty Bajac and Maryanna Macios and her sister, Jean. Stella was born in Lisle, Ontario. She left the small family farm to work for the Longbranch Smallarms Division during World War II. In 1945, she relocated to Ottawa and was employed at the National Film Board and the National Research Council, until moving to Manchester, England in 1954. Stella studied art and became an accomplished amateur painter. She travelled the Continent and the world and was artistically inspired by these experiences and enjoyed visiting art galleries and theatrical performances as often as possible. Stella returned to Ottawa in 1988 and renewed contacts with relatives, many friends and acquaintances.

She was a member of numerous organizations, including Beta Sigma Phi, the Canadian Women's Club and the choir at Our Lady of Fatima Roman Catholic Church. She will be fondly remembered. Friends are invited to visit at the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 150 Woodroffe Avenue (at Richmond Road), Ottawa on Saturday, September 6th from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m., followed immediately by a Funeral Mass being celebrated at Our Lady of Fatima Roman Catholic Church, 153 Woodroffe Avenue, at 2 p.m. Interment at a later date in Alliston, ON. Special thanks to the director of Unitarian House, Christina O'Neil and the staff, who took care of Stella and where she felt truly at home. Also thanks to the staff at St. Patrick's Home, who cared for her during her final days. For those who wish, memorial donations in memory of Stella can be made to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute.
