Kawartha Happenings Peterborough Convention – June 13, 14, 15, 2008
Lynda Chenier, Nancy Shaver, Joyce Gilchrist and Karen McIntyre stayed at Trent University while attending the sorority convention attended by approximately 250 sisters. The fun filled weekend consisted of the Rice Lake Thunder drumming and dancing ceremony, a karaoke evening and dancing, Saturday morning forums and a marketplace as well as a Liftlock Boat Cruise filling two cruise boats on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon. We also met up with Barb Cook, out-going Ottawa City Council President and spent time getting caught up while enjoying the relaxing cruise.
After dinner Saturday evening we were entertained by Bill Dickinson and for those with the itch to gamble a late night trip to the Kawartha Downs Casino was arranged. Sunday morning consisted of early morning hospitality suites serving a light breakfast followed by Sunday Brunch, more entertainment and Closing Ceremonies.
Beginning Day – Sunday, August 24th “Tea-on-the-Lawn” at the Billings Estate Museum
13 members attended the Billings Estate for tea and tours learning about Braddish and Lamira Billings who settled the area back in 1812 carving out an existence for themselves and their four generations of family that lived on the property until the mid-1970’s. It was a beautiful hot summer day and also a great opportunity to catch up from our summer activities while enjoying tea and scones.
